THE BIBLE AND ABORTION: Pro-choice or Pro-life?

A Student Questions:

Hello sir... I am a student and I am doing a research paper on abortion and the Bible. I have researched many sites for answers. My research is based on the fact the Bible never condemns abortion. In fact the New Testament shy's away from it. Also I have found only two verses that talk about abortion. If you could please give me some feed back.

David Factor Replies:

The Bible most definitely condemns abortion."Your hands have made me and fashioned me, an intricate unity...You have made me like clay...Did You not pour me out like milk, and curdle me like cheese, clothe me with skin and flesh, and knit me together with bones and sinews? You have granted me life..." Job 10:8-12

"Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord. The fruit of the womb is His reward." Psalm 127:3.

David says he was predestined and wonderfully made by God. Psalm 139:13-16.

Jeremiah was predestined by God before he was conceived. Jeremiah 1:4,5.

"Shall I bring to the time of birth, and not cause delivery?" says the Lord. "Shall I who cause delivery shut up the womb?" says your God. Isaiah 66:9

If a fetus isn't a human being, then what kind of being is it? If it is growing, it must be alive. If it is not alive, then why does it have to be killed? Fetus is the Latin word for infant. The child is called an infant both inside and outside the womb. Note that when a woman was pregnant in the Bible, she was said to be "with child." Therefore, the only distinction between the word child in the womb or outside is the word "with." Luke 2:5

Reproductive Rights?

People have the right to reproduce, or not. It has nothing to do with abortion. When sperm meets egg, and conception takes place, the couple have reproduced. The choice to reproduce is before conception, not after. Once reproduction has taken place, the mother will deliver a baby. There are two "choices." The mother will deliver a live baby or a dead baby.

"You shall not murder." Exodus 20:13

"You shall not commit adultery." Exodus 20:14

If you believe that God creates humans and if you believe murder is wrong, then you must accept that abortion is wrong.

Ripping Open a Woman With Child

The Old Testament specifically mentions the act of abortion, or "ripping open a woman with child," only 4 times that I know of, in every case condemning it. 2 Kings 8:12 calls abortion evil, and Amos 1:13 says God will punish those who perform abortions. Amos 1:13 doesn't even list the other wrongs that were done, only abortion. By itself, it is enough to anger God to wrath.

2 Kings 15:16 and Hosea 13:16 speak of more abortions during acts of war. Now, you are thinking these were acts of war, forced abortion, these women did not choose abortion. True, but the condemnation in these passages is on the abortionists, not on the women.

In Amos 1:13, the reason given for the killings was "that they might enlarge their territory." Isn't that exactly what the abortion doctor does? He makes money "ripping open the women with children," so he can buy things, material wealth, a big house and property. The abortionist kills for money, the same as an assassin, a hired gun! He makes his living off of other people's suffering!

God is Pro-life

In Deuteronomy 30:19, God says, "I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live..."

God hates hands that shed innocent blood. Proverbs 6:16-19. Who is more innocent than an unborn child?

The entire Bible is a book of life, about life, how to protect life, how to treat other people (who are alive). Jesus said, "God is not the God of the dead, but of the living." Matthew 22:32

Murder is Condemned

The New Testament does not "shy away from abortion." Murder is certainly condemned throughout the New Testament. Mark 10:19 and 1 Timothy 1:9,10. All things were created by Jesus. John 1:1-3 and Colossians 1:16,17.

God creates babies in the womb, not so man can destroy them. Why would God create a tiny person for His pleasure, and not be grieved when someone destroyed its life by torturing it to death? All life belongs to God, and He has the authority to do with His creation as He sees fit.

"...He gives to all life, breath and all things. And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, 'For we are also His offspring.' Therefore, since we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, something shaped by art and man's devising..." Acts 17:25-29

"Now see that I even I, am He, and there is no God besides me; I kill and I make alive; I wound and I heal; nor is there any who can deliver from My hand." Deuteronomy 32:39.

If Jesus warns us not to even harm a little one (Luke 17:2), what condemnation will befall those who kill them? If Cain's blood cried out from the ground to God (Genesis 4:10), how much more the blood of 40 million unborn in the U.S.A., or over one billion unborn worldwide?* The sound in Heaven must be deafening! And these are numbers only since 1973.

"Keep yourself far from a false matter; do not kill the innocent and righteous. For I will not justify the wicked." So spoke God in Exodus 23:7

Murdering the Unwanted

Abortions have been performed in various cultures for thousands of years. Before Hitler murdered a single Jew, abortion, infanticide, and euthanasia of the handicapped had been practiced in Germany.

Later, of course, they decided what races and people of differing religions were "not human." Millions were murdered, and it all started with the legalization of abortion 20 years prior.

Are you the right "race," "color" and/or "religion?" Are you in good physical shape, and working? Who will decide these things? The government, insurance providers or the doctors? Will your grandchildren decide it's time to stop feeding grandpa, he has outlived his usefulness to the family and society? They need the extra bedroom? Can't afford the nursing home, or medical bills?

Jesus said, for what you have done (or not done) to the least of these you have done (or not done) to Him. Matthew 25:31-46. Murder an unborn baby, and you are murdering Jesus. Don't speak up for the unborn, and you are not speaking up for Him. Read the whole passage.

Jesus came to fulfill the law, not to abolish it. Matthew 5:17-20 and Luke16:17. The New Testament doesn't nullify the Old Testament. It is not now permitted to murder, commit adultery, steal, lie, etc.

Jesus gave the 2 great commandments. "Love God with all of your heart...and love your neighbor as yourself." Matthew 22:36-40

Jesus said, "This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends." John 15:12,13.

Exchanging Murder For Sex and Materialism

Abortion is murdering for convenience. It is exchanging the murder of an innocent little human for sex, money, career, education, and material goods. This is not love, but hate. Abortion is a hate crime. No one murders someone they love.

There is never a time when it is right to take that unborn life. Certainly not because a child might be born handicapped.

"So the Lord said to him (Moses), 'Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the Lord?'" Exodus 4:11.

One of my daughters is handicapped, and I do not appreciate it when I hear people say they would abort such as her. She wants to live, and it is her right. I know many adults who were abused as children, who are happy to be alive today. To deny them the right to their life would be a crime against humanity.

Think of someone you know, who is handicapped, or was abused as a child. Do you love them? Are they your friend? Would you have murdered them so they wouldn't have had to go through what they have? Do you love life? Do you appreciate the fact that your mother chose to let you live?

The word of God stands on its own. We do not need to question what it says or its authority. "For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has become His counselor?" Romans 11:34. "There is no wisdom or understanding or counsel against the Lord." Prov. 21:30. See also 1 Corinthians 2:14-16

Even NARAL Admits Abortion is Killing a Baby

I attended a debate between the directors of Ohio Right to Life and the Ohio Chapter of the National Abortion Rights Action League at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, in 1998. Considering all of the medical evidence of the developing baby, Susannah Sagan of NARAL said she and NARAL admit that abortion is the "killing" of a "baby." She refused to answer if it were murder in her personal view, but said that NARAL's position is that it is not murder because it is legal. The only thing left that the pro-aborts can cling to is "Choice."

"A woman has the right to choose to kill her unborn baby." Think about that statement, and ask yourself if that sounds good or loving or ethical or just. Abortion is evil, unloving, unethical and unjust! You cannot make it otherwise.

God Commands That We Deliver the Innocent From Slaughter

"Open your mouth for the speechless, in the cause of all who are appointed to die. Open your mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy." Proverbs 31:8,9. (Take note these verses are immediately prior to the famous ending of the Proverbs, with the description of the Virtuous Wife.)

"Deliver those who are drawn toward death, and hold back those stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, 'Surely we did not know this,' does not He who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, does He not know it? And will He not render to each man according to his deeds?" Proverbs 24:11,12.

We live in a culture of death. Fortunately for us, we do not have to die spiritually. God sent His Son to die as a sacrifice for sin in our place, so that spiritual death is defeated. If we confess our sins, repent of them and accept Jesus as Lord of our lives, we receive eternal, abundant life with our Creator! The alternative, by rejecting His free gift, is eternal separation from God. God is holy, and cannot allow sin in His presence. It is truly sad for those who let their pride ruin their eternity! Where Do You Want To Go--ETERNALLY?

The David Factor = the battle is the Lord's. 1 Samuel 17:47

I challenge anyone to find a scripture which says it is permitted for a person to murder or kill an unborn child.  To contact David Factor, e-mail  life@NOSPAMeaglesnesthome.com remove "NOSPAM" from the e-mail address above. Thanks for helping us reduce internet spam.
